Alone series, 2020 - 2022

Artist-made dress (pure white, poplin cotton) and performance

What does spiritual community look like when we cannot be together? Alone responds to the COVID-19 experience of isolation. A group of girls are shown alone in everyday lockdown situations in the public sphere and domestic environments. Each wears the same white dress that becomes a uniform, representing an inner spiritual devotion and adherence to the group, even in trying times. Through this visual signifier, the girls indicate a unified commitment without revealing ties to any one religion or belief. As the girls come together to form a sisterhood, their individuality fades into a collective entity.
